With a single-signed Babe Ruth baseball, a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed ball and a remarkable uncut sheet grouping of 1910 E93 Standard Caramel cards atop the marquee, Mastro Auctions concludes its 2006 Classic Collector auction trilogy a vast array of high-end sports and Americana items.
According to Doug Allen, the October 2006 event will offer one of the best collections in terms of both quantity and quality ever presented in a Classic Collector event. "If there were ever a time to jump in on one of our Classic Collector auctions, this one would be it," said Allen. "The overwhelming success of these events has led to a huge influx of material from all collecting genres. If you're looking for it, chances are we've got it in this auction."
All lots in the October Classic Collector auction will open with a minimum bid of $100. Bidding, conducted entirely over the Internet, will begin on Oct. 9 and conclude on Oct. 26.
The auction of 2,100-plus also features a Honus Wagner 1920s professional model bat, MEARS A-7, a Zinn Beck bat that was turned for Wagner during his semipro days. Remaining in the Pittsburgh area after the 1917 season, Wagner toiled in semipro contests from 1918-24. There also is a Lou Gehrig 1920s vault-marked H&B bat, MEARS A-10 that was extracted from that manufacturer's vaults during the 1950s and later displayed at the company's headquarters. it is uncracked and shows virtually no diamond use, which narrows its specific status to that of a lathe bat from which additional models were to be patterned.
Also offered from the bat rack: a Babe Ruth 1933-44 H&B game-used players/coaches bat, MEARS A-4.5.
