Memory Lane officials have turned up some true blazers for their Aug. 11 auction, including a spectacular crop of 1933 Goudey Sport Kings, a 1941 Play Ball Joe DiMaggio in PSA 9 and a remarkable 1956 Topps Baseball set that is entirely graded 8 or better (shown).

That last item is offered as a single lot, with all 342 cards included, and opens with a $10,000 minimum bid.

The 1941 Play Ball DiMaggio opens at $20,000; it shares the spotlight with a grouping of fully half of the famed 1933 Sport Kings set, offered individually, and a complete 1948 Bowman Baseball set with an amazing 42 PSA 9s and six PSA 8s, also offered as individual lots. There also is an almost unprecedented high-grade grouping of four complete Red Man Tobacco sets (shown at right).

The Sport Kings include PSA 8s of Babe Ruth ($7,500 minimum) Jim Thorpe ($1,000), Babe Didrickson ($1,500), Joe Lopchick and Eddie Shore (each $1,000), but the real stunner is a PSA 8 Nat Holman card that opens at $5,000. Memory Lane staffers noted that a PSA 8 Holman sold for over $24,000 in a recent auction.

Some of the other headliners include a 1911 M116 Sporting Life Christy Mathewson in PSA 9 (Pastel Background, $2,000), a 1933 Goudey Ruth No. 53, PSA 7 ($5,000), a 1933 Goudey Gehrig No. 92 (also PSA 7, $1,500) and a 1933 Goudey Benny Bengough in PSA 7 ($1,000).

As is customary in Memory Lane auctions, high-grade Mickey Mantle cards abound, including PSA 9s from 1953 Bowman Color ($2,000), 1956 Topps ($2,500), 1959 Topps ($2,500), 1961 Topps ($1,000) and 1963 Topps ($1,500), plus a 1957 Topps Mantle in GAI 9 ($1,500) and a 1961 Topps All-Star Mantle in PSA 10 ($2,000).

Stan Musial gets the well-deserved royal treatment with a pair of 1953 Bowman Color specimens in PSA 9 and SGC 88 ($1,500 and $700, respectively), a 1952 Bowman in PSA 9 ($1,000), a 1949 Bowman in GAI 8.5 ($500) and a 1948 Bowman Musial in PSA 9 from the complete set mentioned above ($2,500).

The 60-page, full-color Memory Lane auction catalog is inserted in the Aug. 5 issue of SCD (this week). All of the auction lots will be on display at the National Convention in Chicago from July 26-31. For more information, call (877) 606-5263 or go to
