Game-used baseball items will be a top draw in Ame

A1965 Roberto Clemente game-used All-Star bat graded PSA 8, leads the way for American Memorabilia's October World Series auction. The auction house secured the bat, which shows outstanding wear, at the All-Star Game in Pittsburgh this year.

In addition to the Clemente bat, the auction is dominated by game-used and autographed items from the four major sports. There are 167 lots of baseball game-used items, and 144 lots of signed baseball items. Football is represented by 66 game-worn items and 37 signed items. There are 49 game-used basketball items, and 27 signed basketball items. There are 14 game-worn hockey items, and 14 signed hockey items.

Highlighted game-used bats include: a 1925-30 Rogers Hornsby (PSA 7); a 1973-75 Hank Aaron (PSA 7); a 1988 Mark McGwire (PSA 6); a 1976 Billy Williams Bicentennial; a late 1980s Dave Winfield; a Tony Gwynn, signed; an Eddie Mathews, signed; a late-1980s Rickey Henderson; a 1982 Rod Carew; and a late 1980s Alan Trammell, signed.

 There is a plethora of game-used jerseys available, including: a 1993 Carlton Fisk White Sox from his final season; a mid-1980s Nolan Ryan Astros Rainbow knit; an early 1980s Billy Martin A's spring training, signed (PSA 9); a 1988 Dwight Gooden worn during the All-Star Game with special tagging; a 1990 Barry Bonds Pirates from his first MVP season; a 1985 Don Sutton Angels, signed; and a 1975 Rick Burleson Red Sox.

There are plenty of other game-used baseball items collectors will be interested in. Some of those include: a 1977 Billy Martin Yankees jacket (right); a 1980s Nolan Ryan Astros sweater jacket; a 1987 Ozzie Smith signed glove from the 1987 World Series; and a 2000 Ivan Rodriguez catcher's mitt "MVP 99".

Some of the highlighted autographed baseball items include: a 2004 game-used, signed and inscribed "4/30/04 Win 315" baseball from Roger Clemens' 315th win; a 1960s Pirates team-signed ball (PSA 8.5) with Clemente's signature; a Babe Ruth signed and inscribed portrait print; a Ruth cut signature (PSA 9); a Roger Maris signed photo; a Clemente signed ball; and two Pete Rose signed "I'm Sorry I Bet on Baseball" balls.

There is a mixture of old and new game-worn football items in the auction. One of the top jerseys is a Chuck Bednarik game-worn, signed Eagles Durene jersey which may have been used in the infamous Frank Gifford knockout game. The Eagles only used sleeve striping for a short period of time and this heavily used shirt features the sleeve striping.

Other highlighted football items include: a 2004 Peyton Manning game-worn Colts jersey from the Dec. 5 game; a 1970s Archie Manning game-worn Saints jersey (below left); a 1966 Roger Brown game-worn Lions Durene jersey; a 1990 Randall Cunningham Eagles game-worn, signed jersey; a 1991 Bruce Smith Bills game-worn, signed home jersey; a 1981 Marcus Allen game-worn USC jersey with great use during his Heisman season; an Earl Cooper game-worn, signed 49ers home jersey from Super Bowl XIX; an early 1980s Ray Wersching game-worn 49ers jersey; and an early-mid 1980s Hugh Green game-worn Buccaneers jersey.

Highlighted basketball items include: a 1965-66 San Francisco Warriors game-worn Durene jersey; a 2001-02 Michael Jordan Wizards game-worn jersey; a 1989 Kevin McHale Celtics game-worn home jersey; a 1991-92 Charles Barkley Sixers game-worn jersey; a Bernard King Knicks warm-up jacket; a mid-1970s Rick Barry Warriors game-worn jersey; and a Shaquille O'Neal Magic game-worn jersey.

A 1991-92 Wayne Gretzky game-used Kings jersey with family letter headlines the hockey portion of the auction. According to Hockey authenticator and owner of Spirit of the Game, Rich Ellis, "This is the best Wayne Gretzky Los Angelels Kings game-worn jersey I have ever seen ... with direct provenance and outstanding overall wear."

Other Gretzky items include a game-used helmet from scoring goals 800 and 801 with family letter and a pair of 1993-94 game-worn hockey gloves with family letter and photo match.
