Storms and recurrent power failures in Southeastern Pennsylvania caused the first extension of a Coach's Corner Sports and Celebrity Auction in 19 years.

The 3,153-lot auction, which was scheduled to end July 21, ended July 28 with a 3-by-5 card cut from Hall of Famer Pud Galvin going for an auction-high $4,666.

Coach's Corner president Scott Malack said this was just the second Galvin signature he had seen in 19 years and that it graded "a clean, honest, 9." Galvin's full name, James Francis Galvin, had been added to the piece.

A brown Louisville Slugger 125 Model bat signed by Lou Gehrig and personalized to "Master Robert Thomas" was the second biggest seller, bringing $3,617. A Babe Ruth signed American League baseball sold for $3,000 and one signed by President Calvin "Silent Cal" Coolidge changed hands for $2,625.

A Louisville Slugger bat signed by 17 members of the 1937 American League All-Star team, including Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx and Earl Averill sold for $2,422, the auction's fifth highest price.

A baseball signed by President and Mrs. John F. Kennedy took the sixth highest price, selling for $2,315, while a Met Ott-signed Louisville Slugger brown bat brought $2,240 and a Mickey Mantle signed Mitchell & Ness Yankee throwback jersey brought an even $2,000.

A Fleer 1986-87 Michael Jordan rookie card sold for $1,940, while a baseball signed by one of the Hall of Fame's newest members, Effa Manley, sold for $1,939. Manley was the first woman inducted into Cooperstown and her induction came one day following the close of the auction.

Other noteworthy sales included $1,902 for a Gehrig signed Worth baseball, $1,824 for a Josh Gibson cut signature, $1,750 for a Walter Johnson signed International League baseball with the added inscription "Newark Bears Manager" increasing the value.

More prices included $1,575 for a signed Beatles "Abbey Road" album, $1,460 for a Joe Tinker signed baseball, $1,368 for a Jimmie Foxx signed baseball, $1,277 for a Cy Young signed ball, $1,208 for a Will Harridge signed ball and $1,104, twice, once for three signed Mickey Mantle ScoreBoard baseballs and a Roberto Clemente signed Spalding ball.
