1941 Jimmie Foxx Red Sox jersey nets record sale at Grey Flannel
Boston Red Sox memorabilia typically attracts high demand and strong value on the sports collectibles market, especially if it relates to early Red Sox star Babe Ruth.
But another baseball legend just set a record for the sale of Red Sox jerseys.
A 1941 Jimmie Foxx Red Sox game-used flannel jersey sold for $708,369 at Grey Flannel Auctions, establishing a public auction record for a Red Sox jersey.

According to Grey Flannel, the sale also ranks as the third most expensive piece of Boston Red Sox memorabilia ever sold at public auction, trailing only two historic Babe Ruth-related contracts: Ruth's 1918 Boston Red Sox player contract, which sold for $1,028,500; and the famed 1919 contract documenting his sale from Boston to the New York Yankees, which realized $996,000.
The jersey dates to Foxx's final All-Star season in Boston. A three-time AL MVP and a member of baseball's original 500 Home Run Club, Foxx remains one of the game's most revered sluggers.
“This result is a testament to both the extraordinary rarity of the jersey and Jimmie Foxx's enduring place in baseball history,” said Michael Russek, director of pperations at Grey Flannel Auctions. "Pre-war Hall of Fame uniforms seldom become available and collectors recognized this as a once-in-a-generation opportunity.”
Two other items that sold for big dollars in Grey Flannel’s Summer Auction.
A 1954-55 Mickey Mantle Yankees game-used fielder's glove sold for $342,877, placing it among the top five baseball gloves ever sold at auction, according to Grey Flannel.
Meanwhile, a 1992-93 Chicago Bulls NBA championship banner from the old Chicago Stadium sold for $209,647.
